Founder Vince Martinez became involved with Wireless Communication and Telemetry applications in 1990 while working for GTE Mobilnet, In 1995 Vince became intrigued with vehicle tracking. Therefore, he hired on with a reputable company based out of California, with a remote sales office in HoustonTexas.  At the time, this would be the only company in the industry where fleet monitoring was accomplished using "RF" (Radio Frequency), better known as triangulation a land-based technology and "MS-DOS" (Microsoft Disc Operating Systems) programs to format the data for reporting.

Due in large part to his success, Vince was recruited in 1999 by senior management for an industry related start-up company also based in California.  The start-up company had a broad interest in strategic placement of satellite offices throughout North America and would be the first to introduce a wide spread vehicle tracking application using the "World-Wide-Web" (internet) and a wireless technology called "CDPD" (Cellular Digital Packet Data).

This would serve the purpose of most applications, until the communication or data transfer systems needed upgrading to a more robust technology, of which caused a migration to other short-lived technologies and eventually "GPRS" (General Packet Radio Service), a standard for wireless communications which runs at speeds up to 115 kilobits per second, compared with current GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) systems at 9.6 kilobits.

GPRS, supports a wide range of bandwidths, it is also an efficient use of limited bandwidth and is particularly suited for sending and receiving small bursts of data, such as e-mail, Web browsing, vehicle positioning information, etc...

With a clear advantage over other industry related competitors, this knowledge and exposure not only quantifies the existence of Progressive GPS, it allows for business owners and decision makers alike, to partner with Progressive GPS and share information, of which minimizes the risk associated with cutting edge technology purchases related to Web-based Fleet Management, Asset Tracking, and Field Automation.

Progressive GPS should be viewed as a partner with first hand knowledge of the industry’s direction, OEM technology breakthroughs, down-falls and short-comings of many manufacturers and service providers.

Wireless Fleet Management has been around for sometime now. However, with 25-million commercial fleet vehicles moving about daily in North America, the industry has only seen an estimated 12% market penetration, of which is predicted to increase to an estimated 30% in U.S Commercial Fleets by the year 2012.
